COURSE SUMMARY:
1.5 CEUs
This 2 day course consists of lectures, team activities, practices, and
role plays that will provide attendees with the tools necessary to be an
effective supervisor. The Personal Profile System (DiSC) and the
Dealing
with Conflict Instrument will aid managers and supervisors in knowing
themselves and others. The following topics are covered:
• The relationship between being a leader of people and manager of
projects.
• Understanding your personal style of supervision.
• Appreciation for the communication model and methods for communication
for individual and
team effectiveness.
• The importance of values, expectations, SMART goal setting and their
linkage through the annual
performance review.
• Dealing with conflict in self and others.
• Characteristics of effective teams.
• Development of an action plan for continual quality improvement for
your team.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• Defining your role as a manager or supervisor with personal
strengths and how you may differ from
those you supervise using the DiSC Profile.
• Identifying methods for effective communication.
• Review methods of motivation and the importance of recognition
• Clarify values you will exhibit and expect from others and a process
for establishing expectations.
• Understand how, when and when not to delegate.
• Appreciate how you deal with conflict and methods to deal with
conflict in the workforce.
• Understand the four steps of team development and key processes for
growing efficient and effective
teams.
• Setting quality goals using priorities for individuals on their
performance review.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Managers and supervisors with one or two years experience in their
role.
PRE-REQUISITES:
None. A minimum of six months in a supervisory role is recommended to
facilitate comprehension of the many facets of their role as leader and
manager.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participants will learn how to:
• Use new skills for self-development and apply them to their team
members.
• Be consistent in their relationships with direct reports.
• Maximize current production and production capability for the long
run.
• Motivate staff through recognition and feedback
• Manage conflict through effective communication, relevant objective
setting and prioritization of daily
tasks.
• Stay flexible.
